Firefighters battled a stubborn blaze that tore through three connected buildings on Gaston Road in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Monday evening, destroying a mix of commercial and residential space.
Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency sent 10 units and roughly 35 firefighters after crews were called just after 6 p.m. to find a commercial building with residential units upstairs, along with two adjoining residential structures at the rear, fully engulfed in flames.
Fire officials say quick response times likely prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings, though partial roof collapses have slowed efforts to search every part of the damaged structures. No injuries have been reported.
