Canada Takes Helm of Inuit Circumpolar Council as Aluki Kotierk Named Chair
The former Nunavut Tunngavik president was acclaimed to the role in Iqaluit, at the first fully in-person general assembly gathering in nearly a decade

Aluki Kotierk has been acclaimed as the new chair of the Inuit Circumpolar Council, taking over from outgoing Greenland chair Sara Olsvig at the close of the organization's general assembly in Iqaluit.
Kotierk, who previously led Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. and has held senior roles with national Inuit organizations, used her first address to call for greater unity among Inuit across the four countries represented by the council.
The gathering, the first in Iqaluit since 1983, brought together delegates from Canada, Greenland, Alaska and Chukotka, who signed a new declaration on hunting rights, research investment and Inuit identity protection.
