Maple Leaf Centre for Food Security Awards Four Scholarships to Graduate Researchers
Four Masters and Doctoral students studying food insecurity across Canada will share $60,000 in funding to support their research

The Maple Leaf Centre for Food Security has awarded four scholarships worth $15,000 each to graduate students conducting research into food insecurity, bringing the total funding distributed this cycle to $60,000.
The recipients are Alexandra Doran of Simon Fraser University, Firoozeh Bairami Hekmati of Dalhousie University, Diego Bitencourt Minas of the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue, and Sian Borden of Queen's University.
Each recipient is pursuing a Masters or Doctoral degree and focusing their research on different dimensions of food insecurity, from community food access to the systemic drivers of hunger in both rural and urban settings.
The scholarship program, funded by Maple Leaf Foods' philanthropic arm, has become one of Canada's more prominent sources of graduate-level funding dedicated specifically to food security research.
Organizers say they hope the funding will help produce new evidence and policy ideas that can be applied directly by food banks, community organizations, and governments working to reduce hunger nationwide.
