Named for the 176 people killed when Flight PS752 was shot down in 2020, the program has already granted 104 scholarships to Canadian and international students across the country

Global Affairs Canada's Flight PS752 Commemorative Scholarship Program honours those who tragically lost their lives when Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 was shot down on January 8, 2020. Fifty-five Canadian citizens and 30 permanent residents were among the 176 people killed, including many students and researchers who had contributed to Canadian educational institutions.
Following the wishes of victims' loved ones, the government designed the program to disburse 176 scholarships over five years, one for each life lost. Scholarships average $25,000 and are meant to cover a full school year, including tuition, travel costs, health insurance and living expenses.
To date, 104 of the planned scholarships have been awarded to eligible recipients, including doctoral, graduate, undergraduate and college students studying at post-secondary institutions across Canada. Recipients come from a wide range of fields, from business administration to engineering to health sciences.
Eligibility extends beyond Canadian citizens and permanent residents to foreign nationals holding a valid study permit in Canada, reflecting the international makeup of those who died aboard the flight. The most recent application round for the 2026-2027 academic year closed on June 9, with recipients set to be notified in the months that follow.
Beyond the financial support, the program stands as a lasting tribute, ensuring that the academic ambitions of the victims live on through the students who now carry their names forward in classrooms and research labs across the country.
