Canada Reopens Applications for Global Affairs' Study in Canada Scholarships
Canadian post-secondary institutions can apply for funding that sends international students on short-term exchanges, with a March 31 deadline for the 2026-2027 academic year

Global Affairs Canada is once again accepting applications from Canadian post-secondary institutions for the Study in Canada Scholarships program, this time for the 2026-2027 academic year. The call for applications opened in January and gives institutions until March 31 to submit proposals on behalf of eligible international students.
The program offers scholarships to international students wishing to pursue short-term studies or research in Canada, with each placement lasting four to six months. Funding covers a wide range of costs, including airfare, select living expenses, health insurance and visa or permit fees, easing the financial burden for students who might otherwise be unable to study abroad.
Behind the program is a broader goal of strengthening and diversifying Canada's international academic partnerships. By supporting exchanges with a wide range of countries and territories, Global Affairs Canada aims to enrich the country's educational ties abroad while giving Canadian institutions a chance to host talented students from around the world.
Unlike some awards given directly to students, this scholarship works through institutions: Canadian colleges and universities apply online on behalf of the exchanges they wish to host, rather than students applying individually. That structure lets Global Affairs Canada work closely with schools to match funding with the partnerships that matter most to them.
Study in Canada Scholarships is just one part of a much larger suite of Global Affairs Canada scholarship programs, which also includes the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program, the Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development initiative and the Flight PS752 Commemorative Scholarship, among others. Together, these programs form a key pillar of Canada's efforts to remain a top destination for international education.
