Frenchy's: The Thrift Musical brings three generations of Maritime women — and a cult-favourite discount clothing chain — to the stage in Parrsboro

A new stage musical inspired by Frenchy's, the discount clothing chain beloved across Nova Scotia, has premiered at the Ship's Company Theatre in Parrsboro. Written by playwright David Craig with music by John Roby, the show follows three generations of women on a road trip visiting different Frenchy's locations, using the ritual of thrift shopping to explore family secrets and connection. Demand was strong enough that extra matinees were added before opening night. After its Parrsboro run through July 26, the production heads to Dartmouth's Eastern Front Theatre this fall. Frenchy's has long held a special place in Maritime culture as an affordable, community-driven alternative to full-price retail, and the musical aims to give that everyday tradition a theatrical spotlight.
