EU and Canada Deepen Energy Ties at Montreal Roundtable
European and Canadian officials met in Montreal to advance cooperation on clean energy, electrification and liquefied natural gas amid rising global energy demand.

The European Commission and Canada convened an Energy Security Business Roundtable in Montreal, bringing together EU ministers, Canadian provincial governments and companies from both regions to discuss deeper cooperation on energy. The meeting, co-chaired by the EU's commissioner for energy and Canada's minister of energy and natural resources, focused on electrification, clean energy technologies and liquefied natural gas.
Participants discussed how to build more resilient and diversified energy supply chains, including electricity grids and critical components, while examining ways to unlock private investment. Canadian liquefied natural gas featured prominently in the discussions, with a dedicated workshop connecting Canadian energy projects with potential European buyers.
Officials from both sides described the partnership as increasingly important given rising global energy demand, ongoing supply chain disruptions and broader geopolitical uncertainty. The outcomes of the roundtable are expected to feed into the agenda of the next EU-Canada summit, scheduled for the fall, as both sides look to strengthen energy security on either side of the Atlantic.
